how do i remove the old strip without damaging the door
the old strip has lifted on the left hand side but is secure in the centre and on the right by the hinge how do i remove it safely without damaging the base is it a case of rip it off or snap it ? or is there a nack to releasing it
Answer this Question (1 Answer)
- I had exactly the same problem. In the end I resorted to putting a large flat bladed screwdriver under the strip and levering it up. If you use a small screwdriver you will almost certainly gouge the fridge door. In my case I got lucky because when I levered the strip upwards it was the lugs on the strip which broke and not the housing which they sit in. If I were doing the job again I would use three or four screwdrivers along the length of the strip and lever the strip up slightly. This is done with the fridge door open and the screwdrivers on the inside of the door. In theory you should then be able to gently tap or push the strip away from you and it should release. You will probably have a broken catch stuck in one of the housings. I levered that out with a small screwdriver. When fitting the new one it is much easier to see how it slides in and then snaps into place. The knack is to release the catches (four in all but usually one broken which is the reason for the replacement strip) enough to allow you to slide the strip out rather than levering it upwards and risking damage to the housing as I did. The question has been posted a few times around the web which suggests there might be a slight design fault on the fridge which needs a stronger catch to prevent it breaking under normal use.
