Hi Anon, Most vacuums have 2 filters a pre and a post (aka Hepa). The pre motor filter is responsible for keeping the vast majority of dirt and debris from going through the motor. The post motor filter, or Hepa, is for keeping what does get through from getting kicked back out of the vacuum and into the air. We've got a video that shows how to fit the pre and post (HEPA) filter in a Vax VEC04 vacuum cleaner, this might help: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/vacuum-cleaners/a/4/1160/how-to-change-the-filters-in-a-vax-vec04.html
