How to Change a Cooker Grill Element (Compatible Part)

You’re feeling lazy and fancy a slice of cheese on toast, but the grill appears to be faulty? Don’t worry, we might just have the solution for you here.

If your grill element has failed or is faulty you can replace it with the manufacturer’s original part. Alternatively eSpares may be able to supply a 'Universal' part that matches exactly the original as an economical alternative. Let's not rule out cheese on toast just yet.

Here at eSpares we stock a number of original grill elements for cookers. However, if your cooker is old and the part is no longer available or you want a more competitively priced alternative then a universal grill element is for you.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

Safety First! Please make sure that you have switched off or disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.

The first thing to do is remove all the oven shelves out the way. You can remove these entirely, or just put them at the lower part of the oven.

On some cookers you can unscrew the grill element from inside. However, as shown in this video, on this model the grill element is screwed in from the back of the machine so we will need to unscrew the back access panel to get to the element.

Now that the back panel is off, let's get to action! You’ll see the electrical connections attached to the grill element terminals and also the two screws that are holding the element in place.

A photo never lies…Take a photograph of the electrical arrangement to make sure when you’re putting them back on they’re in the right place. Now let's disconnect the connections and unscrew the grill element.

Out with the old, in with the new… With the screws removed, you can now lift out the element, which is now only held in place by the support bar going right the way across.

To do this, just lift off the catch and take the grill element out. Now to slot in the new element, making sure that the chrome support bar goes into the right position.

Almost done, we promise! With the grill element in place, we can now reattach it back to the cabinet. Let’s start, with the first screw to hold the element in position and then using the photograph taken earlier, reconnect the connections to the element terminals in the correct place.

Now reconnect the thermal cut out to the last lead and then put the last screw in place, as shown in this video.

With the grill element firmly in place, you can now return the back of the cooker in place and re-screw it back in place.

There you have it, a new grill element fitted to your cooker! You can now get back to making your cheese on toast, you’ve had on hold.
