How to Change a Washing Machine Drum Paddle - LG

We all enjoy wearing freshly washed clothes, or jumping into bed with fresh sheets. So it would be a tragedy if your favourite clothes became damaged from a loose and damaged drum paddle. Drum paddles in your washing machine agitate the clothes while the washing machine runs its washing cycle.

If damaged or loose - they may become detached and could cause damage to your clothes or damage the appliance which consequently reducing the washers efficiency

In this guide we will talk and show you how to replace the drum paddles in washing machine.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Old Paddle Removal

Drum paddles are attached to the drum using two means, firstly, through the use of small tabs - these lock into the drum which secondly, with spring barbs, that push up against the paddle underneath and prevent it from sliding back and becoming loose.

If the tabs have come away from the drum on one side, removal is quite simple - simply lift the paddle it up and pull it over the top of the barb to release it.

Step 3

However, if the paddle hasn’t come loose, you will need to persevere and access that inner strength pull the paddle against the resistance of the barbs which will allow it to become loose therefore releasing it.

Step 4

With the paddle removed you'll need to reset the barbs. Set them at about a 45° angle, pointing towards the back of the drum. This will allow them to lock against the new paddle and prevent it from coming loose.

Step 5 - To Lock The Barbs

To reset the barbs using a screwdriver will allow you to pull them back up to the correct location. With that out of the way, you can take your new paddle, locate the tabs and guide them into the wider end of the slots. Once in place push the paddle back and you should feel it click this indicates that it is in place and will not release.
