How to Change the Drain Hose on a Washing Machine (Zanussi)

If your washing machine's drain hose has become split, damaged or is leaking, you'll need to replace it so your washing machine works to its full potential. A damaged hose could lead to your machine not being drained correctly - and could result in your machine being filled with excess water inside.

If you are unlucky enough to have a washing machine that is suffering from a damaged drain hose, you have certainly come to the right place! eSpares are able to offer you a wide range of replacement hoses, so you can be confident in getting the correct one for your machine.

But hold on - we don’t just stop helping you there...we also have a video that you can watch, that shows you how to replace the drain hose yourself - saving you time and money in avoiding the need for engineer call-outs.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar

What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Switch Off Your Appliance

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Remove The Top Of The Appliance

Remove the top of the appliance by undoing the screws at the back.

Step 3 - Remove The Old Hose

Remove the grommet the holds the drain hose into position, I do that by undoing the screw located underneath it. With this grommet unscrewed you will now be able to push down to release the hose.

Next thing for you to do is to push down and release the hose clip, which will free the hose from the top.

Proceed to lower the machine onto the floor (you will notice that there is carpet on the floor here - but if you have a hard floor make sure you put the machine down gently on a mat or towel)

With the machine now on its side, if you follow the hose down at the back of the machine you can see there's another hose clamp which can be released.

Following the hose up to the drain pump you can see there is a metal clamp holding into place. You need to release that so that you can remove the hose from the pump - with hose clamp removed you can now carefully manoeuvre the hose underneath the shock absorber, and pull it through the machine (do be careful here though, as there is often water inside the hose)

Step 4 - Fit The New Drain Hose

Start by transferring the grommet from the old hose on to the new hose - there are two clips: one at the top and one at the bottom that separate the two halves of the grommet.

Proceed to feed the hose through the clips and then re-attach it to the drain pump. With the necessary hose clamps all attached, you can then feed the hose back through the hole and re-attach the grommet.

Step 5 - Attach The Top Panel

With the machine in an upright position, and the hose firmly in place, you can now screw the top back on to your machine.

Well done you on attaining some newly found DIY skills! With your hard work, and a little help from eSpares, you have been able to replace your washing machine drain hose - helping you to avoid engineer call-outs, or even stopping you from needing to obtain a complete new appliance.

With the new drain hose now fitted in your machine, you can hopefully get back to having a fully working washing machine again - where it continues to produce the washing performances that you have been used to getting up until now.
