The part of your Dyson that comes into contact with the floor most is brush roll and the soleplate and because of this these two parts tend to take a bit of abuse and can therefore need replacing more frequently. In this video we are going to show you how to change both of these parts on a DC33.
This article will talk you through the removal and replacement process of a Dyson DC33 vacuum cleaner brushroll and soleplate. You’ll soon have your Dyson cleaning your home at its optimum best again.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

Step 1 - Safety Advice
Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.
Step 2 - Accessing The Brushroll and Soleplate
Let's start off by releasing the canister from the cleaner to give yourself more of a flat surface to work on.
Next we need to flip the machine over onto its front, underneath we have the soleplate and this can be released by unlocking the three locks, using either a flat head screwdriver or a penny, it simply pops off.
Underneath we have the brush roll, now, getting the brush roll off is a bit more of a tricky procedure because it's held in place by the belt and the belt has to be really tight in order for the brush roll to turn properly.
Step 3 - Removing Old Brushroll
On some Dyson models the belt can be released from the motor spindle, but on this DC33 it's housed inside the clutch assembly.
Rather than going through the trouble of removing the clutch assembly, we are going to use a bit of brute force to pull the brush bar out from underneath the belt. Once you've got the brush belt out it's a good idea to use a blunt instrument to pop underneath the belt to stop it from going back inside.
Step 4 - Adding New Brushroll and Soleplate
Once you've got the old brush roll off, it's simply a case of putting the new one back on and again because the belt is really tight you're going to need to use a bit of brute force to get it back underneath.
A good technique to use when putting the new brushroll in is to use a blunt instrument. Place it underneath leaning it against the side of the vacuum, which will give you more space underneath the belt to put the brush bar in.
Turn the brushroll a few times to ensure it is sitting in the correct position.
Once we have the brushroll back on we can put the soleplate back on as well and just lock the three screws back down again and that's it.
