How to Replace a Washing Machine / Washer Dryer Door Lock - AEG

It’s important to make sure that for your washing machine / washer dryer to continue performing to its optimum best, the door lock is functioning at all times. If for any reason the lock has gained a fault or failed, then you may need to replace it.

Following our guide we’ll run through just how simple replacing the door lock is. Fixing your washing machine will give you back the ability to wash your cloths once again with you lifting a finger.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need:

  • Door Lock
  • Screwdriver
  • Device to take photos on (i.e. camera)

Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Remove Door Seal To Access Door Lock

To gain access to the door lock, you’ll need to get in behind the door seal, which can be done by removing the retaining band and then pulling the seal away from the machine.

Step 3 - Removing Faceplate to Remove Lock

Now that we have gained access to behind the door seal, you’ll need remove the faceplate of the lock by unscrewing the two screws; removing the faceplate will enable you to gain access to and remove the door lock mechanism from your appliance.

Step 4 - Detatching Old Lock From The housing

Now we need to remove the lock mechanism from the holder. In order to do this, you will have to prise open the two plastic bits and unclip it, before removing the cable block which can be slightly stiff.

Step 5 - Attaching The New Lock Mechanism

Once that’s released from the washing machine you just need to replace it with the new door interlock mechanism. Reattach the cable block making sure it ‘clicks’ back into place.

Step 6 - Re-assembly

Now to re-fit it back into position.. Start by lining up the screw holes to match the faceplate fitting, then simply screw the faceplate back on. The last step is to put the seal back into place and securing it with the retaining band.

There you have it, one new lock fitted to your washer dryer. Hopefully we have showed you just how simple replacing a door lock is on a washing machine.
