How to Replace the Belt on a Bissell - Powerforce Bagless

If your brush roll has stopped spinning on your Bissell vacuum, there’s a high chance that the belt has snapped or become loose from the motor spindle.

Replacing a drive belt is a fairly simple task, so if you’re unsure where to start you’ve come to the right place for advice.

In this video Mat will demonstrate how simple it is to replace the drives belt, without damaging your vacuum cleaner.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

  What You Will Need:

  Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

  Step 2 - Accessing The Belt

To access the belt start by turning the vacuum cleaner over and then we need to remove the soleplate by taking off the four screws on the base.

Once the soleplate has been taken over, you’ll see the drive belt wrapped around the brushroll and motor spindle.

  Step 3 - Removing Old belt

Out with the old, in with the new… Let’s remove the faulty belt. We need to remove the belt from the motor spindle first. You can use your finger to do this, but if it is extremely tight you can use a flathead screwdriver.

Now take the belt off the motor spindle, release the brush roll which in turn releases the belt.

  Step 4 - Fitting New Drive Belt

Start by putting the belt around the motor spindle, then feed the brush roll back through the belt. Now a good little eSpares Top Tip: put one side of the brush roll in place and then feed the other side into position slowly. Give the brush roll a little spin just to flatten out the belt, and  to ensure it’s in place.

Now to replace the soleplate back in place and you’re done.
