How to Replace the Belt on a Dyson - DC07

If your agitator brush roll on your Dyson DC07 isn't turning correctly even though the motor runs smoothly, a snapped or worn out drive belt may be causing trouble.

If the drive belt in your vacuum cleaner has either perished or damaged, don’t fret it’s fairly simple to replace. A broken belt means the motor will continuously run without the brushroll turning.

In this video we will demonstrate how simple it is to replace the drive belt, without damaging your vacuum cleaner.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Dismantling Vacuum Cleaner

Let’s start off with taking the cyclone and bin assembly off, and then removing the post-motor filter off. Only reason for doing is so that it gives us a nice, stable cleaner to work on.

With the cleaner flipped upside down we can now take off the soleplate. Using a coin undo the screws by turning 90 degrees.

Now that we have the soleplate removed, you’ll see the drive belt running over the brush roll and then attached to the motor spindle. If your belt slacks like the one in our video, it’s a good idea to replace the belt for optimum performance.

Step 3 - Replacing the Drive Belt

Let's do this...now to remove the worn out belt, simply slide the belt off the motor simple, pull the brushroll out and the belt should pull through.

Now to fit the new drive belt. The new belt will be slightly tighter to fit then the old one as it would have stretched over time.

Pop the new belt on the brushroll and just feed it back through, making sure the brushroll it sitting tightly in place. Now this part can be a little fiddly, so be patient and pull the belt from the brushroll to the motor spindle and slide it on. Turn the brushroll a few times to check that you’ve got the belt on correctly and in line.

Now all that's left to do is put everything back together. Pop the soleplate back on and turn those screws back again to lock the soleplate in position.

There you have it! Your Dyson DC07 has been rejuvenated with a new drive belt, allowing the brushroll to move freely while it cleaners your home. We hope that this has helped provide you with an easy to follow guide on how to replace a faulty or damaged drive belt for your vacuum.
