How to Replace the Door Lock on an Indesit Washing Machine

The door interlock is an electronic device that provides a time delay of approximately 2 minutes, before the door can be opened after the wash cycle has been completed. If your washing machine door isn't locking or is becoming stuck after a wash cycle, there may be a fault with the door lock.

If the door lock does not engage with the latch, nothing will work. Follow this step by step video guide and find out how you can replace your faulty washing machine door lock.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

  What You Will Need:

  Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Remove Top Panel

The door lock can be fitted in a couple of ways. You can either come in through the door porthole and partially remove the door seal to gain access, or you can remove the top by undoing the screws at the back. In this video we will be taking the top off.

eSpares Top Tip: Sometimes the top panels can be a little tricky to get off, if that's the case with yours just use the palm of your hand and give the front a good firm hit.

Step 3 - Removing The Old Door Lock

Now with the top off, open the washing machine door and unscrew the two screws holding the door lock in place. Once these screws are out, you can carefully lift the door lock up from the inside through the top.

It’s a good idea to take a photograph of the electrical connections on the lock, as it will help you when connecting the new lock and you will know where they exactly go.

Note: Now it may be the case with your model that the door lock is held in place on the washing machine with pips, these simply push through releasing the door lock.

Step 4 - Fitting New Door Lock

Time for the new lock…depending on your model the reconnection of the electrical connections can be slightly different, fitted in a different way. If that's the case follow the enclosed instructions carefully.

You can now screw the door lock back to the machine followed by the top panel and there we have it, one new door locks fitted to your washing machine.
