When the vacuum cleaner is used on a daily basis, it is bound to end up developing a few faults. The soleplate is the main part that's in contact with the floor, so it's not surprising that it gets damaged.
In this video Helen is going to show you how to replace a damaged soleplate on this DC25. Without the high cost of a call out or new appliance, follow our easy follow step by step guide and repair your vacuum so that it performs at it best again.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

Step 1 - Safety Advice
Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.
Step 2 - Removing Cleaner Head from Machine
The complete process of removing and replacing the soleplate is pretty simple, to begin with you need to remove the cleaner head from the Dyson machine itself. And to do this turn the vacuum on its front and then pull up the release button and push the cleaner head towards you.
Step 3 - Opening Up the Cleaner Head
Now that we have the cleaner head away from the machine, you need to open it up to release the soleplate. On the DC25 there are 8 screws holding the soleplate in place and these will need to be removed with a Torx key. Once they have been removed, you now need to unscrew the screw holding the wheel in the corner.
With the final screw out, simply remove the wheel cover and the wheel and then separate the two halves of the cleaner head.
Step 4 - Removing Brush Bar and Belt
In order to remove the soleplate you now need to remove the brush bar and drive belt. So using a coin or flat-head screwdriver unlock and twist the end cap and pull the brush bar out. And then to remove the belt use the flat-head screwdriver again to prise it out. With them removed you can just pull the soleplate away.
Step 5 - Reassembly
Once you’ve got the soleplate detached, you can now add the new soleplate to your cleaner head. So let’s do this…
Reassembling everything back together in the opposite order, starting with the new soleplate. Then in goes the belt followed by the other half reattached. Slot in the wheel and cover and screw everything back together.
Finishing off by reattach the cleaner head to the Dyson. Job well done!
