How to Replace a Dishwasher Door Lock

So if your dishwasher door is no longer locking correctly, then it would usually mean that the machine itself will not turn on. This will be because a trip switch in the lock mechanism won’t activate when the door is open.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

STOP! Before starting any repair please ensure you turn off the power to your dishwasher by either switching off and unplugging it (if your model has a plug) or switching off the power via the switch in your kitchen.

Right, let's begin! You need to start by removing the screws which can be found at the top of the inside of the dishwasher door. Once removed this will allow you to easily slide out the faceplate fascia.

Be careful when removing as the metal edges can be sharp. 

With the fascia removed you can carefully uncouple the cables, this will allow you a little more room to manoeuvre. Once removed you should be able to clearly see the door lock mechanism, here - there are two screws which will need to be removed.

Now the screws have been taken out, you can now remove the old lock mechanism.

The new door lock will fit exactly the same as the original so this shouldn’t take too long, don’t forget to refit the two screws which hold it in place.

Once firmly in place, replace the connector and simply slide the fascia panel back in. And once the panel is secure and the connector cable is not in the way, replace the screws along the top of the inside plate and you’re done.

So you have successfully replaced the door lock mechanism - and now we are going to run through replacing the upper catch.

You need to remove the top plate! Simply removing the screws which sit at the back, once the screws have been removed the top plate can be lifted off.

There will be a central screw which needs to be removed. It is recommended to hold onto the nut while you perform this step. Once loose the catch should just come away from the plate.

Replace the old catch plate with the new one in the same way in steps 7 and 6, fit the top plate back in place and hey presto you’re done!
