How to Replace an Oven Cooling Fan

So after examining the cooling fan in your cooker, you’re convinced it has developed a fault; don’t panic. We are going to talk you through replacing the cooling fan in an electric cooker so you can fix it yourself and save some money!

Firstly, just to check you are on the right path, here are the warning signs that your oven cooling fan is broken:

• The temperature around your oven is not reducing after having the cooling fan on
• Cooling fan noisier than normal when switched on or warm
• Fascia panel and control knobs melting

Safety First! Please make sure that you have switched your appliance off at the mains before starting your repair.

The cooling fan is located at the back of your cooker above the oven cavity, so if you’ve got a built-in oven; you’ll need to take it out of its housing.

To do this you will need to remove the fitting screws and lifting it out, ensuring to disconnect any cables from the mains.

With the cooker out and with room to move around, the first thing you will need to do is undo the cable grip at the bottom using a flat head screwdriver.

Then moving onto removing the back and top panel (which is the plate of metal at the back of your oven, casing and protecting the internal part of your cooker) with a screwdriver.

Once the back and top panel is removed the faulty cooling fan can be seen casually sitting at the top.

You should be able to see two electrical connections going to the fan, which will need to be taken off.

Now to remove the two screws holding the fan to the cooker, but make sure you hold the fan with one hand so it doesn’t fall off when it’s loose.

Now, it’s time to put in the new cooling fan, which should slide in easily allowing you to put the screws back in; securing it in place.

Reattach the electrical cables and screw the back panel back on, then the cable grip should then be tightly screwed back on.

Time to reassemble your cooker back into its housing! Lifting the oven back in and screwing the fitting screw on either side.

All you got to do now is set the clock and get the oven working again.
