If your washing machine refuses to drain during a wash cycle, the problem could be a faulty pump. The pump is located at the bottom of the appliance, and its function is to pump the water from the wash into the drain hose, to drain away. In this video, eSpares show just how easy it is to replace the pump on a Bosch washing machine.
Before you go any further just check the drain hose and pump filter, to make sure that they have not become clogged up, (as one of these could possibly be the cause of your problems). If they both seem ok and are free from hair or other debris, then it could well be the pump that is the problem.

If your Bosch machine shows an error code E25 it is indicating a pump problem and this video may be particularly relevant.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.
What You Will Need:
- Pump
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Towel
Step 1 - Safety Advice
Safety First! Please make sure that you have switched your appliance off at the mains before starting your repair.
Step 2 - Drain The Water
Before you go any further you need to drain any water inside the machine away and disconnect the pipes. Once you have done this, you need to place the washing machine on its side and remove the kick plate from the bottom of the front panel.
You may possibly need the assistance of someone else for this, as it could prove to be heavy to tilt.
Please Note: When tilting the machine on its side, make sure there is no water in the conditioner compartment and lower gently.
Step 3 - Remove The Old Pump
Time to get rid of that old pump now...start by disconnecting the wires from the existing pump, on the model in our video you need to release a clip and turn the old pump anti-clockwise before pulling it away. There may be a small amount of water spillage at this point, so it’s always handy to have a towel to hand.
Please Note: You might find that there is a clip in the way of the pump, stopping you from turning it in its current position. If this is the case, then get some pliers to move the clip further down the hose away from the pump.
Step 4 - Fit The New Pump
With the old pump removed, simply proceed to twist the new pump into place. You can then attach the wires, before proceeding to refit the kick plate that you had previously removed.
You now just have to lift upright and reconnect the machine.
Congratulations - you have now successfully been able to replace the pump on your washing machine! You can now get back to tackling the task of washing your dirty clothes again, in the knowledge that you have fixed the pump all by yourself (with a little help from eSpares of course!)
