Smeg Dishwasher Error Code E06

Dishwashers have become very popular over recent years to become one of the most used luxury appliances in the home. It has been proven that using the dishwasher to clean your plates and cutlery uses less water than washing up by hand.

You may have found your dishwasher to have been nothing but reliable up to now, but all of a sudden you are now experiencing an issue with some faults. One such fault can be an E06 error code that is flashing at you on the LED display.

This particular error code is usually associated with the water not draining away from your appliance.

Luckily for you though, we can help you to resolve this problem, talking you through the most likely causes of why your dishwasher is no longer draining correctly.

Drain Pump

There are two initial checks that you could take to examine your dishwasher's drain pump. One possible cause as to why your dishwasher is not starting is that it cannot drain the water inside. If you are experiencing this issue, then both of the steps provided below could help to identify why your dishwasher is not draining the water.

  • Always check that the most recent program has finished - and not ended mid-way through a cycle.
  • Glassware can break while being washed in the dishwasher. When this occurs the broken fragments may become lodged within the pump.

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

  • To check for glass, or any other objects blocking the pump, you need to access the pump and carefully remove any debris. However, do remember that broken glass may be causing the blockage and so please take care in removing it - to avoid injuries.
  • If there is no blockage then, unfortunately, you could be facing a faulty pump. However, we fortunately have a guide showing you how to use a multimeter to test a dishwasher drain pump to determine whether or not it's actually the part that's faulty. If this is the case then a replacement would need to be fitted, but luckily for you, we have an extensive range of replacement pumps which can be found on the eSpares website.

With the help of eSpares, you could soon be back to having a fully working dishwasher again in no time, leaving the need to hand-wash your dirty dishes to be a thing of the past!

Here’s our easy to follow guide on how to replace faulty drain pump for your dishwasher.

Filter

The filter is a key component in ensuring that your dishwasher can continue to run and wash your plates effectively, as it prevents large food particles from getting to the wash pump - which could lead to motor failure.

Safety First! Please make sure that you've switched off your appliance and disconnected it from the mains before beginning any repair.

To help identify a faulty dishwasher filter, you can follow these simple steps to diagnose your filter problem - and you can hopefully get it repaired without having to call out a costly repairman (or in other instances, helping to avoid buying a new dishwasher).

  • Locate the filter, usually located on the floor of the dishwasher.
  • See your user manual on how to safely remove the filter.
  • Check to see if the filter has any damage - such as holes.
  • While the filter is removed also check to see if any food has become trapped, and clean if required.

To help prevent the filter from becoming damaged, or generally having a far shorter life expectancy, it is recommended to perform regular maintenance by simply removing the filter and giving it a rinse.

It is also recommended to use a dishwasher cleaner through the system to clean the internal hoses that you are unable to reach.

If the filter has unfortunately seen better days and you now need to replace it, you can see the eSpares website for a wide range of dishwasher filters.
