Bosch Washing Machine trips RCD
The house dis-board RCD always trips a few minutes into a wash, except if the element is disconnected or a cold wash is selected. Must be the element. A new element worked for 2 washes but now does the same. I made up a test lead to plug the element directly into the mains, but it doesn't trip the RCD. So now it doesn't appear to be the element tripping the RCD. Any clues?

Check the front lip of the inner drum does not allow more than a mm or so movement in relation to the rest of the drum. If there is significant movement then significant bearing wear is likely.
- Right - checked it again this evening, it now does trip the RCD with a direct connection. Removed new element, and found it has had a slot cut into it by the drum. Looking more carefully at the old element, it too has a less obvious wear mark in the same position. The drum bearings feel ok to me, but it looks like the bearings are failing, the drum has drooped and cut into the element allowing water in to it.

Occasionally a element can trip due to a very small leakage current due to moisture in the element. This may clear after it has heated up a few times.
