How do I get the door open now the handle has broke

Answer this Question (7 Answers)

  • It`s only spring loaded, just gently pull on the door towards you! By John - Ayr - 17 September 2017
  • So frustrating... When all else failed I used a sink plunger to open the door... And carried on doing so until the new part arrived. By Stacie - Essex - 09 August 2016
  • If the door handle has completely pulled off with the door shut, you can prise open the door with a flat bladed screwdriver or other object such as a knife or fork. Chances are that the three flimsy plastic pillars have completely snapped off and if you try to remove the Torx screws (which you'll need to fx the new handle), they'll just twizzle around. You therefore need to remove the outer panel of the door. To do this, unscrew the three screws at the hinge end, from inside of the door. You can then prise off the outer door panel to get to the broken plastic pillars to grip them with pliers whilst removing the Torx screws. Don't worry - the hinge just stays in place on the drier even if you take the whole door off, and when you've fitted the new handle, you can just clip the front and back panels of the door together and refit it at the hinge with the three Torx screws. The door catch isn't fixed with anything inside the door - it's just held loosely in place when the front and back door panels are closed together. It's a straightforward task - you might even find you have a small bladed screwdriver which will remove the Torx screws, without having to buy a Torx bit. I've just replaced the handle on my daughter in law's drier for the fifth time in recent years. So much for German engineering and design! Hope that helps a bit. Best of luck. David. Answer for 'mumof2'. Remove all the screws from the inside of the door frame and you should be able to prise off the outer door skin to access the broken handle pillars to remove them.

  • I'm having this exact problem - the handle has completely sheared off, nothing left to grip on or duct tape together. I cannot see how to get this bl**dy door off. There is not enough room to get a screwdriver (or similar) in between the frame and the actual door to prise it open. Please help! By mumof2 - Kent - 07 April 2016

This type of handle is fixed solidly to the door and does not open the door it pulls the door open. The door should simply pull open or prise using a flat blade.
