will this still fit if the nut that holds the stat inplace on the element bracket inside the washer has a stripped thread??

This machine has a standard heating element and this thermostat is mounted directly to the skin of the base to detect the base surface temperature, It is important to have 'metal to metal' contact and therefore cannot be glued in place. If you cannot find a way of attaching this to the base skin allowing it to monitor the temperature correctly we would advise not to use it as it could be dangerous and possibly lead to a fire.
