Smeg timer button doesn't stay attached

Hello I have an old Smeg over where one of the timer buttons has fallen out. When I push it back it it doesn't click or stay in place and will fall out again. Do you have any advice on how to get it back in? It looks a bit different to the one on this page in that the top of the button stays thick for about half its length.

The timer buttons can wear causing them to drop out, to make sure it is not the timer try one of the other buttons in the same place and if ok replace the button.
