How do you replace the motor brushes?
My Neff W4380X1GB washing machine is playing up. The drum sometimes rotates and sometimes doesn't. There are a few sparks coming from within the motor when it does turn so I suspect a new set of brushes might be the fix. How do I replace them? Do I need to remove the motor first? Do you have intrusctions? Thanks.

- It does sound like brushes, i have never played with a neff but would suggest you do remove the motor, it makes fitting easier and gives you the opportunity to maybe clean up the commutator (the sliced up copper ring thing at the end that the brushes rub against) with fine sand paperand blow out the carbon dust if it has been sparking it will be a bit sooty! note: the brushes have angled ends and fit two ways (wrong and right) so note how the old ones come out.

I've found this article which may help, I'd also suggest looking through our advice centre on the site. I would however suggest that if you are inexperienced with fixing electrical appliances to contact an engineer as it can be dangerous when dealing with live electric cabling. http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/spare-parts-shop/hotpoint-carbon-brushes-diagnostics.html
