The spider shaft will not come out of the bearings on a Hotpoint WT961P washing machine.

I have tried the method of trying to shock the shaft free with a hammer and block of wood but it will not release. Do you have any suggestions?

Try placing a block of wood on a solid floor and dropping the drum and rear half of the tub directly on to the wood shaft end first. The weight of the rear tub will usually shock the shaft loose.
