Is this a metal part? Several cheap plastic parts have broken in the past and this one is considerably more expensive. I need one that will not break again.
Also; 1. since the most recent cheap plastic latch stuck (several years ago) I have freed the catch. The machine gives no microwave output but generates a little heat from convection oven and once generated a red glow on the element and quite a lot of heat. Are these also a consequence of the dodgy latch? 2. How do I remove the inside lining of the door to expose the latch? The overpaid SMEG repair man who changed the last latch broke the lining and stuck it together with superglue - those parts have since fallen off - but how do I remove the rest to access the latch panel? 3. I cannot remove the microwave oven from its housing. Is there something that could be catching or did Mr Smeg also make it difficult to remove so that nobody else could repair it? Many thanks for your help.

There is not a metal version of this part to our knowledge. To access and remove it you will have to remove the inner door surround (choke). These are very difficult to remove without breaking hence the gluing. If the door latches are not correct the microwave will not work.
