When my door is open the lamp goes on and the top (outside) gets hot. I had a look inside and there is nothing between the bulb and steel top. Is this what I need?

This is likely to be the barrier or window between the light bulb and the cooking area. If there was no barrier between lamp and case then that is how the machine has been produced. we can not supply a barrier unless Sharp have a modification.
