Do I heat the steam cleaner before I put the sticks in . Because instructions say after putting in sticks unplug from electric supply.

These sticks do not prevent lime scale they help dissolve and remove it so use after a period of use to clean away any build up.

Descaling products work better in warm to hot water. You could carefully fill from a kettle or turn on with the top off until it starts to boil before turning off and putting the sticks in.
