Food Processor Drive Shaft Spindle Cover - 12cm

This plastic drive shaft should be checked regularly for signs of wear and tear. If yours has broken or worn, you can replace it simply and cheaply!

To keep your spindle in tip top condition, avoid over processing and overloading your food processor. When replacing the spindle, check that none of the blades are damaged, as they may harm the new driveshaft when used.

  • I have used Magimix food processors for about 30 years and offer this advice: (1) To remove the spindle sleeve use two table knives that have quite sturdy steel handles. Slip the end of the handle of one knife under the bottom of the spindle sleeve and use the other knife handle as a fulcrum underneath the first handle, lying flat on the body of the Magimix very near the spindle. Move the blade end of the first knife handle down, so levering the spindle sleeve upwards. Usually you have to reset the position of the second knife even closer to the spindle, so increasing the leverage. Exert quite a bit of force on the blade end of the first knife, and keep moving the second knife closer, and eventually the sleeve will pop off. Remember to add some vegetable oil to the steel shaft before installing the new sleeve. (2) As soon as you notice the blade getting rather dull, replace it even though it is expensive. As the blade get more dull it puts more strain on the drive connection between the plastic spindle sleeve and the plastic inside the blade shaft, and eventually the plastic parts will lose their "grip" and smear. If this happens you will waste quite a lot of time removing the blade. It usually happens when you have a full bowl of gooey thick stuff, and you will have to take off the blade shaft cap and drive a thin knife blade down between the plastic parts while at the same time lifting sharply up on the bowl. This can take half an hour or more. (3) When it's time to replace the blade, ALWAYS replace the spindle sleeve at the same time - - it is a false economy not to do this, because the spindle sleeve and the blade shaft wear against each other at the same time. Using a new blade on an old spindle sleeve will cause a blade drive failure much sooner than necessary, By Richard - Timsbury - 25 October 2017
