Rolson 3 in 1 Detector
When you want to want to securely hang up a new picture frame or wall mount a television, it is worth identifying if there are any metal support beams, studs or live AC cables behind your desired location.
This Hand-held, three-function detector from Rolson locates the presence of metal, studs, and live cables. If any are located the device will use both LED and audible signals, to make you aware something is located behind and may not be the best location to drill or screw.
The detector comes supplied with a 9-volt PP3 battery.

This product will detect voltage but not the direction the cable is running.

We believe it should detect a change in wall density if you use the 'stud finder' setting but it is unlikely to detect on the metal function. We would suggest you confirm this by checking the sensitivity on an exposed piece of pipe first.
I have an old version of this detector that when set to live cable buzzes constantly, I have discovered that it is the wifi causing this malfunction. Does this newer version exhibit the same problem? 1 Answer

To detect live cables it is reacting to the electromagnetic radiation from cables but any 'radio transmission' like WiFi baby alarms or operating cordless/mobile phone's may be picked up depending on their signal strength. It is likely the new one will operate similarly.
