The drier doesn't heat up but I get no error code. However when I removed this and put a meter on it , it is open circuit. Presumably, a working one should have a small resistance?

This part is a NTC and will have a high resistance (between 10,000 and 40,000 ohms typically) If there is no resistance it might stop the dryer working but we do not have information to confirm this.

Answer this question

It is important to know whether this is the autodry stat (air humidity) and not the thermostat on the side of the heater bank ( excluding the resettable stat) also on the side of the heater bank as you just describe this as a thermostat.

This is the temperature probe NTC situated at the middle on the top of the duct as it leaves the heater and connects to the door seal.
