There is a microswitch located inside the door catch and it is likely to be that which has failed so check that first.
Would it be this switch that turns the machine off when the door is opened after the start of the washing cycle. The machine works but if you open the door it doesn't turn off the machine as it did. 1 Answer

The microswitch is incorporated into the door catch and when the door opens it should switch off, check the microswitch and make sure the catch is activating the switch before replacing.

Any resistance caused by a loosening connector or slight tarnishing on switch contacts will result in heat as power is passed during the heating or drying cycles. If the contacts are tight and in good order replace the door switch.

Hi judith. Both this part and the door latch assembly (ES488161) perform the same function, which is to latch the dishwasher door closed, however they fit different models of washer. To find the latch for your model, simply search the model number in the bar at the top of the page to view all parts available for it.
