The door handle is broken but the door is locked shut and I can't open it. How can I open the door or take the door off? thanks

  • A piece of string is a more subtle approach. Just do a google search for 'washing machine door stuck string' and follow the link to the YouTube video. Very simple and worked first time for me. By MiB - Manchester - 31 July 2016
  • Anonymous answer.....your solution with a chisel sounds a bit drastic. Also I do not see anywhere the video that you refer to??? By Malcolm - Yorkshire - 22 January 2014
  • You need to remove the handle to get to the lock. Use a narrow chisel - 1/4 inch. The handle itself is attached to the spindle at two points, chop through each with the chisel and the handle will come off the door. You can then hook the latch back and open the door. Watch the video to see where to cut, it worked for me! By Anonymous - Yorkshire - 13 May 2011

Hi there, i bought this item White Washing Machine Door Handle Kit (ES835853). However it didnt come with any instructions. Also I didnt see how the old handle was fitted before. The problem I have now is that the catch is loose and isnt catching the door lock so the machine wil not start. I know this sounds ridiculous but i am an engineer!! (electrical) Just cant figure it out. The hook part of the latch is facing away from the centre, however it is loose and free to move on the pin (the way I have fitted it anyway!) PLEASE HELP!

The correct link to the video for unlocking the door is: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/7/1294/how-to-open-a-washing-machine-door-thats-stuc This has also been added to the part. Note: It may be easier and safer to release the door from above by removing the top.

Hi there, this part doesn't come assembled, but it is really really easy to put together, the parts just sit in to the slots on the handle.
