Fan Oven Element - 2000W

If the internal element filament burns out, this can cause the element to short circuit - and will lead it to fail. Potential signs that the element has blown can be visual things, such as a split, bulge, or blow hole on the element.

The function of the fan oven element is to heat the oven cavity. When the cooker knob is turned on for your electric cooker, electricity will flow to the element which then proceeds to heat up. Once the element reaches the desired temperature, the electricity flow switches on and off to maintain the temperature.

eSpares has the replacement fan oven element, that could soon be yours, to help get your fan oven back to the required temperature - so you can continue to make your delicious meals!

Please check the suitable model fit list to ensure that this is the correct part for your appliance.

Please note: This is a 'new style' fan element and will require the following adjustments for 'old style' cavities (pre Nov 2006). 2x fixing screws (899370148) are required as the fixing studs are no longer present. The nuts from the previous element should be retained and reused as these are not supplied. When the element is screwed onto the cavity, the Earth wire should be attached or secured to one of the nuts as the Earth connector is no longer present, alternatively use a ring tag. When connecting this element please isolate the earth lead (if your cooker has one) as the element will be earthed when screwed back onto the cooker.

1 Question and 1 Answer

Please could you clarify the instructions for Earthing this new style Smeg 2000W fan oven element. In your first comment you say "you need to attach the earthing lead using a screw to the element" then you go on to say that you need to "isolate the earthing strap as the element is earthed when it is screwed into the cavity" - which is correct? Do I need to attach the earth lead or not? Thanks

    eSparesMalindi at eSpares says...

If the original element has an earth wire going to it, then the fitting engineer can connect the wire to the fixing stud or bolt on the element fixing bracket. If there is a loose earth wire left at the element because there is no earth connection available it must be pulled back into the wiring harness and then made safe with insulating tape and must not left in an unsafe position. If the element does not have an earth wire present, By fixing the element to the cavity /chassis with the fixing stud or bolts it will pick up its earth path through the chassis providing there is an earth source at the mains connector block.
