My oven will not go on at all! I've fitted a new element and now a new motor and it still don't work but when I looked at the clock it was no lights on so can't tell the time ect and it is making a funny sound. Could this stop the oven from turning on?

If the power is interrupted or switched off the timer will have to be set before the oven will work. Replace the timer to resolve your problem.

Answer this question

Oven timer unit programming still operates satisfactorily together with all displays and clock but on completion of programme as set the audible bell is faint and sounds intermittently and sometimes doesn't work at all. Can this fault be rectified independently or is it necessary to replace the complete digital timer unit?

An electronics engineer may be able to repair it but would not be able to easily get the components. So effectively it is likely you will need to replace the whole timer.

  • my hotpoint cooker was 12 months and 8 days old when this started to happen, pulsing and starting to fade. of course hotpoint told me that this was not a common occurence but according to the internet this is a big problem in all these cookers they should all have been repaired free of charge by the manufacturer. Hi Keith, I'm afraid this can't be corrected - to see the display again you'd need a new timer.

Hi Tony, I'd take off the control panel fascia so you can get a better look at the timer and its wiring. Check the wiring going in to the timer and how it connects to the oven. If the wiring isn't the problem, it could be that the PCB in the timer has shorted somewhere, which would mean having to replace it. Best of luck, and remember to turn off your oven at the wall before you start looking at anything electrical.
